MASTER GENE GAUSE
MASTER GENE GAUSE
Gene H. Gause has practiced and taught martial arts for over 40 years. His journey began in 1967 after learning a few hand-to-hand combat moves from his dad. More formal training began in 1968 at a local Japanese karate class in Florence, South Carolina.
The system included various karate styles combined with judo, aki-ju jitsu, kobudo weapons, Iai do (quick draw sword), and zen meditation. The organization was headed by Dr. Albert C. Church. Jr. Master Gause was lucky enough to learn a special black belt kata and the quick draw sword directly from Dr. Church and earned his first black belt in 1970.
In mid 1970, Master Gause moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the government. He spent a short time learning Tang Soo Do Mu Do Kwon from the famous Master Kim Ki Whang.
Then in 1971 Master Gause joined Lin’s Kung Fu, the newly opened Tien Shan Pai school run by Lin Shih Kuang (Master Willy Lin). This kung fu curriculum included both north and south Shao Lin styles, Tai Chi, Bagua, Xing Yi, Chin Na, and Iron Palm. Master Gause eventually became an instructor, and later was chosen as one of Master Lin’s only two disciples. Along with his now famous classmate, Dennis Brown, Master Gause starred as a member of the celebrated Lin’s Kung Fu demo team, traveling through-out the Northeastern United States.
In the fall of 1975, Master Gause met the founder of the Korean martial art, Kuk Sool Won™. Grandmaster In Hyuk Suh invited Master Gause and two other men to move to San Francisco where the three were personally trained by the Grandmaster. The trio lived in the school for over four years, eventually becoming instructors of Kuk Sool Won™. “It was incredibly difficult, but wonderfully rewarding”, says Master Gause.
During this period Master Gause appeared in countless demonstrations held all over the U.S. He later moved to Los Angeles where he currently resides and continues to teach. Over the years, he has authored a number of articles on Kuk Sool Won™ and remains dedicated to sharing his knowledge and expertise with the world.
Owing to his diverse background, Master Gause is sought after for advice and instruction by black belts and Masters from all Styles.
“They come to me because I have learned from the very best. Regardless of what style they practice, I can help improve their skills and expand their knowledge,” says Master Gause.
